Lime Slag™ is a lime based, putty additive created for use with Faux Effects™ plasters and textured materials. This fine grind formulation of natural limestone has a wide variety of applications. When mixed into Venetian Gem™ Ultra Polishing Plaster, Lime Slag-will increase the hardness and shine of the plaster. This material can also be utilized as a staining and burnishing agent when applied over dry Venetian Gem™ Plaster with excellent results.

Basic Application:

  • Ensure that the work surface is clean, dry and well sealed. For best results seal the surface with 2 coats of SetCoat™, AquaBond™ or AquaSeal™.
  • Mix approximately 32oz. of Lime Slag™ into 1 gallon of Venetian Gem™ Ultra Polishing Plaster (about 25%).
  • Apply 1 - 2 thin smooth layers. Allow each layer to dry thoroughly.
  • Once the work surface is dry, burnish the surface with a good quality stainless steel trowel held at a 30° angle. For the final burnish hold the trowel flat against the surface and move in a circular motion to finish compressing and shining the finish.

Tips:

  • Tint with AquaColors™ or Faux Créme Color™. Because the high PH level in lime based products can adversely affect certain colorants do not use FauxColor™ with Lime Slag™.
  • Lime Slag™ can be dry sanded using fine sandpaper, 800 - 1200 is best for burnishing.
  • The normal ratio to use when adding Lime Slag™ to any product is 25% Lime Slag™ to 75% plaster or textured product.
  • When using Lime Slag™ as a burnishing or staining agent, thin with water, apply and then burnish when dry.
