Aqua Verdigris Kit

Aqua Verdigris™ produces a durable, natural looking, oxidized metal finish over almost any surface. Consisting of a beautiful metallic basecoat and three specially formulated, authentic green hues, this easy to use system is designed to create a realistic, chalky finish utilizing an acid free process.

Basic Application:

• Prepare the work surface. Ensure that the surface is clean and free of grease/dust/film.
• Using a brush, roller or spray unit, apply two coats of AquaBond™ Metallic Copper or Metallic Bronze. Allow to dry a minimum of 4 hours between coats.
• In separate containers thin the Dark Green and Blue/Green Verdigris colors with 30 - 40% water. Thin the Light Green Verdigris color with 50% water.
• With a brush, sponge or cheesecloth, randomly apply the Dark Green Verdigris color to the work surface.
• Immediately apply the Blue/Green Verdigris color in a similar random manner, using a separate applicator, in order to keep the Verdigris color identities intact.
• While both colors are still wet, lightly spatter the work surface with water to produce a runny, washy effect. Do not overload the surface with water.
• Cheesecloth or terrycloth may be used at this point to rub/blot any high areas or mottle/vary the surface, allowing more of the base coat to show through.
• On flat work pieces, try to avoid a solid striped effect. On textured/sculptural surfaces allow the colors to collect in any hollows or cavities. This will produce a more naturally occurring verdigris pattern.
• Allow these darker Verdigris colors to thoroughly dry.
• With a fresh applicator, wash the Light Green Verdigris color over the entire work surface. While this layer is still wet, randomly wash water over areas of the finish.
• Lightly blot high areas or sections where the color concentration may be too intense.
• Let the entire finish dry. The finish will chalk and lose sheen as it dries. This is normal and desirable.
• Aqua Verdigris™ may be top coated when used in outdoor applications or water wet interior environments.

Tips:

• Aqua Verdigris™ can be used on walls, furniture, fountains, accessories and ornamental ironwork.
• Always make a sample to ensure the desired result. To extend the open time of the Verdigris colors, add AquaCreme™ to the color/water mixture.
• Although Verdigris colors are lightfast, extreme UV rays can lighten the colors slightly, speeding up the natural bronze/copper oxidation process.
• No need to topcoat the finish when used in interior applications.
• For exterior applications or when extra protection is desired, top coat Aqua Verdigris with AquaGard™ Dull or Clear Flat. Further protection against UV rays can be achieved with a coat of AquaThane™. Very thin, light coats will provide protection without darkening the finish substantially.
• For fountains and water wet conditions, a coat of ColorSeal™ followed by two coats of C-500 Urethane™ will provide the best results.
